Voices of Foster Care: Sound Bytes from Summit 9

Jamie and I were blessed to attend Summit 9 this week in Nashville. Summit is Christian Alliance for Orphans' national convention to bring all orphan or at-risk ministries together to together be jealous for His story written throughout the world, rather than our own individual stories.

I wanted to share a few of my favorite quotes with you...

How can we expect someone to love, when they have known no love? How can we expect a man to raise a family, when no one has been a father to him? ~ Stephen Ucembe, on growing up as a Kenyan orphan

We must come to our children the way God comes to us. ~ Dr. Karen Purvis, author of The Connected Child.

As Christians, we cannot simply discuss; we must act. When we hear his voice, we must follow.

The culture in our home is as important as the culture of our heritage.

GO FOR IT.

When God is in the midst of a calling, there is nothing that can hold you back.

Every kid has special needs and places of pain. Value them as they are, and allow them to be defined by Christ and a member of your family, not by their need.

We don't need another committee or program to figure and discuss how to do the Word. It's time for us to do the Word. ~ Bishop Martin; Possum Trot, Texas

We need the child or family in crisis to save us from toxic self-absorption. ~ Bishop Martin; Possum Trot, Texas

A small group of individuals can change the world. It's never been done any other way. It's what Christ modeled for us. ~ Senator Mary Landrieu

Governments do many things well. Raising children is not one of them. They keep children safe and protect children. But it is the church's job to raise children. Where is the church? ~ Senator Mary Landrieu

When God says He will care for the fatherless, He does, and He does it through His people who say, Yes. ~ Margaret, a Zambian widow caring for the orphans of Zambia

Every child deserves a family.

In getting your hands dirty, you get them clean. ~ Global Orphan Initiative

The greatest sermon you can give the world is your family.

Be responsible with your child's heart. ~ Nicole C. Mullens

For God, there are no unadoptable children.

Crazy attracts crazy. ~ Heard someone say this. I'm claiming this for my family :)

Adoption represents God's predetermined pursuit of us, past sacrifice for us, and present love for us. ~ David Platt

God is good all the time. God knows what He is doing all the time. God wins all the time.

The more often a man feels without acting, the less he will be able to ever act, and in the long run, the less he will be able to feel. ~ C. S. Lewis

Because of the One who commands us to act,
